Set Up & Safety Tips

Please note: The Dick Daddy Votive Candle is not suitable for bodily use.

Choosing a Safe Candle Stick Holder

  • Always use a designed-for-purpose glass, ceramic or metal candle stick holder,  that suitably fits the candle stick.
  • The candle stick holder must securely hold the candle so the candle is not loose.

What You Should Know Before Lighting Your Taper Candle

  • Ensure your candle is fitted to a suitable candle stick holder, designed for purpose, on a flat stable surface.
  • Burn in a well-ventilated room, away from draughts, air-conditioning vents, fans, open doorways, windows and away from any flammable materials
  • Never leave a candle burning unattended
  • Keep the wick trimmed to 4mm - 6mm (to reduce soot when burning)
  • Be careful of the drip - place a protective covering over your flat surface in case of wax drip run off
  • Do not burn a broken candle
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Do not touch or move a burning candle
  • Always take care to extinguish the candle safely and do not blow on the flame
  • Safely extinguish the candle at least 1cm before it reaches the top of the candle stick holder (this helps when removing the candle from the candle stick holder once it’s cooled, and ensures the flames doesn’t scorch your candle stick holder)

  • If grouping candles together,  ensure they are at least 5cm apart. Burning the candles too closely together can cause candles to drip excessively, collapse and reduce their burn time

Tips on How to Get Your Taper Candle Safely Into The Holder

    • Grip the base of the candle firmly, approx. 3 cm above the baseline of the candle (gripping this low helps ensure you won’t snap the candle)
    • Push the candle base down firmly, but slowly, into the candle stick holder. It can help to very slowly rotate the candle as you push this down
    • Looking over the candle from a bird’s eye view, make the tip of the candle/wick into a bull’s eye at the centre of the candle holder
    • Ensure the candle is sitting 0.5cm down from the edge of the candle stick holder and not able to move / wiggle / tip / lean
    • Where the candle is larger than the holder, carefully run a knife around the base edge of the candle and shave the candle tick down to size
    • Where the candle is smaller than the holder, use a small amount of blue/white tact and stick this to the back of the candle stick holder, and firmly press the candle down, still gripping as low on the candle base as possible
